Get ready to explore the Warner Bros. Studio Tokyo: the largest and most magical indoor Harry Potter attraction in the world.

Tokyo’s Studio Tour (full name: Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter) made its debut in 2023. And, when we just happened to be in Tokyo weeks after the official opening date, we knew we had to visit.

Offering a myriad of exclusive experiences, including the opportunity to step into the Ministry of Magic, we wanted to see how the Tokyo version would compare to its UK counterpart. Spoiler alert: It was incredible.

How to Get Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tickets

Despite the attraction being incredibly popular in Japan, getting tickets to The Making of Harry Potter is easier than for the likes of the Pokémon Cafe or the Studio Ghibli Museum. You can either purchase tickets through the official website or through Klook.

We often use Klook to book our attraction tickets in Japan as it’s incredibly convenient and easier than navigating Google’s often inaccurate translations. Better yet, you can combine your ticket with a 24-hour subway ticket for just £37.45.

Where Are the Harry Potter Studios in Tokyo?

Getting from central Tokyo to the studios is fairly straightforward. Take the subway to Toshimaen Station on the Oedo (pink) Line. Exit the station and turn left – from here, it’s a five-minute walk to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.

On the way towards the entrance, keep your eyes peeled for the giant sculpture of Harry Potter’s glasses and the many patronus’ stationed around the park. We’ll be honest, the Tokyo entrance is way more impressive than its Watford counterpart.

We don’t recommend staying in the Toshimaen area as it’s a little further away from central Tokyo, but staying somewhere along the Oedo line is ideal. Top areas include Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Roppongi.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo Experience

Don’t worry – we won’t give away too many spoilers.

As we mentioned, we have visited the UK iteration of this attraction and there were plenty of similarities. However, the Tokyo Studio Tour had something unique that we were incredibly excited for: a replica of the Ministry of Magic. This turned out to be worth the visit alone.

The tour begins with a brief video introduction from some familiar faces before leading you through the Great Hall, much like the Watford tour. It was very busy, though that’s to be expected in Japan. The staggered entrance times help to manage the crowds.

The attraction is filled with interactive elements where you can ride a broomstick, take part in a Quidditch game (this was so fun,) and test out Floo Powder in the Ministry of Magic.

The theming is – quite literally – magical, but the photo opportunities are the best part of this tour.

Japanese people love dressing up and we even felt a little bit out of place not in a Hogwarts robe. If you’re a big Harry Potter fan, you could easily spend an entire day snapping photos and getting involved in the interactive elements.

Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo Merchandise

After the tour, we browsed the Studio Tour Shop, which was huge. The selection of merchandise is better in Tokyo than in the UK, with so many wearables and stationery available to buy. We also noticed that the prices are very reasonable, significantly cheaper than in the Universal parks.

Harry Potter Studio Tour Food

We stopped for lunch halfway through the tour at the Backlot Cafe. Here you can grab Butterbeer and British-inspired hot meals, like roast chicken or a fish pie, or opt for a sweet treat. The Hedwig Cake, which comes served in a decorative cage and looks ADORABLE, was very popular.

We also stopped at the Frog Cafe for a Happee Birthdae Harry Cake which, to be totally honest, was not great. But we found that the rest of the food was high quality.

Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo: Is it Worth Visiting?

If you’re planning a trip to Tokyo and want to know whether to visit the Warner Bros. Tour, let us share our thoughts. If you’re a huge Harry Potter fan and/or you’re spending an extended amount of time in Tokyo (at least seven days), it is definitely worth visiting the Studio Tour.

On the other hand, if you’re short on time and have already visited the UK tour, you might want to skip it. We don’t recommend sacrificing a day in Tokyo if you’re only in the city for a couple of days.

It was incredible but extremely busy, so you’ll need to allot at least four hours to explore the entire attraction in full.

Tips for Visiting The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour

  • When booking your tickets, we recommend picking an early time slot. This means you’ll avoid the lunchtime rush at the Backlot Cafe (we waited about 30 minutes to order.)
  • Save your shopping until the end. You will have plenty of time to visit the Studio Tour Shop on the way out of your visit and you can pick up as much merchandise as you would like without having to lug it around the tour.
